Located in a corner of the Leisure Valley Park, Roots cafe reminded me of a college canteen, with the same relaxed vibe. You can choose to sit outdoors under the trees and soak up the winter sun, or inside the restaurant which resembles a wooden shed and is lit only by a few hanging lamps. They offer their take on breakfast and lunch staples from across the country. When I read the menu, I was a little disappointed to see that there were no non-vegetarian dishes, but their delectable vegetarian soon made me forget about that. We ordered PalakPatta Chat, Willingdon Club's Kejriwal Sandwich, Vegetable Biryani and Rajma Chawal. The best of the lot was the Palakpatta Chat. The bitter taste of the spinach went really well with the sweet chutney of the chat. The sandwich was great too. Fried egg makes everything better, and the combination of kachumber salad and fried egg on toast was the perfect breakfast dish. The Vegetable Biryani was very good, although a tad too oily. Rajma Chawal is a dish that is pretty perfect in itself, but I would have liked it to be a little spicier. I also tried their filter coffee which was nice and strong, just the way I like it. The food was simple yet delicious, and we left feeling satiated. The service is a little slow, but somehow you don't mind that so much when you're sitting there under the trees, away from the commotion of Gurgaon. It's the perfect place to sit and chat for hours and I would definitely like to visit again.
